History of Caldicot Castle
Mentioned in the domesday book of 1086 due to its agricultural surrounding of Durand of Gloucester.
Built at the beginning of the 12th Century by Durand's nephew, Walter Fitzroger. Then passing on to his son, Milo Fitz Walter.
The castle fell in to severe neglect until 1857 when the land was sold to Charles Lewis of St Pierre and then to Joseph Richard Cobb where it was then restored to his family home.
Passing to the Chepstow Rural District Council in 1964, opening to the public as a small museum in 1965.
