Your Ghost Hunt at Bucks Museum
On this exclusive overnight ghost hunt, you will have access to some of the most active and oppressive areas of the museum, including The Georgian Room, The ancient Tudor House and The attic rooms which were once occupied by the headmaster… where the air feels thick with unseen eyes watching. But the true heart of the darkness lies below.
Deep beneath the museum, the original underground wine cellar stretches into blackness, with tunnels once leading out towards Aylesbury Market Square and the nearby church, long since sealed, but not forgotten. In total darkness, with no light to guide you, you’ll find yourself completely blind and alone with whatever may still linger in the void.
This is not just a ghost hunt.
This is a descent into centuries of restless energy, a place where every footstep may be answered and where you may not be as alone as you think.
Are you ready to face what still haunts Bucks Museum?
Ghosts of Bucks Museum
At Bucks Museum, the past doesn’t rest it lingers and watches.
Ghostly encounters here seem to mirror the building’s long and troubled history. Staff speak quietly of a tiny presence, affectionately named Eric who believed to be linked to the Saxon infant remains discovered deep within the site. A fragile life, disturbed and perhaps never laid back to rest.
In the old school rooms, a darker figure is said to appear. A man in a top hat and a cane in his hand has been witnessed watching from the shadows. Thought to be a former schoolmaster, his presence is stern, silent and far from welcoming.
Near the old kitchens, the sound of hurried footsteps has been heard which many have described as too light to be an adult. Witnesses have reported the fleeting figure of a young boy, as though still bound to duties from a time when the building was a grand private house.
Bodies once lay buried in the gardens, lives forgotten by time but not, it seems, by whatever still walks these halls.
Museum staff and investigators alike have experienced chilling activity throughout the building. Heavy footsteps echo through empty corridors. Doors knock and slam without cause. Sudden, biting cold spots grip you where seconds before there was nothing. Dark shadows move just beyond your vision… and sometimes, directly within it.
The energy here is undeniable.
Those who have worked within these walls and paranormal teams who have dared to investigate, tell of nights filled with unexplainable voices, where logic fails and instinct takes over.
History of Bucks Museum
In the historic heart of Aylesbury stands Bucks Museum, also known as the Buckinghamshire County Museum is a place where the story of the county is preserved and where something far older still lingers.
By day, it tells the tale of Buckinghamshire from prehistoric times to the present. But by night, the building itself begins to speak.
Its origins are steeped in hardship. Built in the 19th century as a workhouse, its walls once bore witness to suffering, desperation and lives lived on the brink. Over time, it transformed from becoming a guildhall, a courthouse where judgement was passed, a grand private residence, a coach house and later a Grammar School and Masters house. Yet with every change, the past was never truly left behind, only layered deeper into the fabric of the building.
At its core lies something even older. The Tudor House, dating back to the 1470s, stands as the museum’s oldest surviving structure, its timbers are heavy with centuries of history. Altered in the Georgian era and restored again in modern times, it remains frozen between worlds… a place where time feels disturbingly thin.
And beneath the surface, the darkness deepens. In 2012, renovation work uncovered five ancient burials in the museum grounds dating back to the 7th century. Forgotten souls, disturbed after centuries of silence. Since their discovery, an uneasy atmosphere has settled. Bucks Museum is not just a place of history. It is a place where the past still walks, where echoes of the forgotten remain and where the night reveals far more than the day ever could.
