Ghosts of Prospect House

Prospect House is associated with a range of historical hauntings believed to stem from its long and often troubled past.

Reports frequently centre on unexplained footsteps, doors opening and closing on their own and disembodied voices which echo through empty rooms.

Shadow figures have been seen moving through corridors, while sudden drops in temperature and feelings of being watched are commonly experienced by visitors.

Some believe the activity is linked to former occupants who lived and worked within the house, with lingering energy manifesting through knocks, bangs and responses during paranormal investigations.

History of Prospect House

Prospect House has a long history as a private residence, shaped by generations of occupants and changing uses over time.

Once owned by the Makin family between 1847 and 1855, a extremely prosperous family in Mexborough. A family who were hit with such grievances, grievances that some believe still linger within.

Like many historic houses, it reflects periods of expansion and alteration, with rooms adapted to suit different families and functions as the years passed.

Daily life within its walls would have included both domestic routines and personal hardships, leaving behind a strong sense of past presence.

This layered history, combined with years of occupation and emotional events, is often cited as reason Prospect House retains such a distintive atmosphere today and why it has become closely associated with reports of paranormal activity.
