Your Ghost Hunt at Dorchester Prison
Your Ghost Hunt at Dorchester Prison will be an unforgettable experience as you work through the echoing silence of this daunting and formidable location. You will not have to imagine how hard it was for those who were incarcerated here and the harshness of their surroundings.
Investigate the empty cells in the dead of night, where prisoners would have been left to stew in the hopelessness of their situation and get a sense of their private torture.
This was a cold and harsh environment designed to punish all of those who were placed here. An overnight ghost hunt will certainly evoke any spirits who still reside in the foreboding and sinister Dorchester Prison.
Ghosts of Dorchester Prison
The ghostly activity here really does send chills down your spine. With so many executions and the bodies of prisoners still lying within its grounds, it is not surprising that Dorchester Prison has a host of spectral activity looming within its wall.
Some of these poor souls have been left abandoned for hundreds of years and whilst there are plans underway to desonsecrate the ground they have still not found their final resting place. Black mists appear from nowhere but are nearly always accompanied by a freezing cold atmosphere. Stones are often thrown at ghost hunters as they work out who is haunting this prison and often a piano is heard playing in the distance.
This really is such a daunting building and with so many areas to investigate it will not be an easy task.
History of Dorchester Prison
The history of Dorchester Prison is vast but in short it was built on the site of an old medieval castle in 1154 so you can appreciate exactly how old the grounds are where the prison now sits. Dorchester Prison was completed in 1795 and was a place of many executions. Perhaps the most famous was that of Martha Brown. Amongst the audience of nearly 3000 people was Thomas Hardy. Hanging was classed as an entertainment at that time and Thomas was only a young man of 16 years of age. He was horrified by what he witnessed and went on to write Tess of the D'urbevilles. Could his description of her hanging be related to what he witnessed as a young man?
The last man to be hanged in public was at Dorchester Prison and his name was James Seale. He was hung on 10th August 1858 for murder.
Dorchester Prison is a site of great historical interest and whilst it has a torrid history of death and executions it also has a previous history which we hope to tap into during an overnight ghost hunt here.
There have been plans put in place to deconsecrate the ground of Dorchester Prison where the executed bodies plus those of other deceased prisoners remain and they will be moved to their final resting place.
