Ghosts of Bishton Hall
There are many reported sightings of ghosts at Bishton Hall. The main sighting seems to be that of Charlotte Sparrow who used to own this magnificent mansion. A lady has been seen here on so many occasions that it is difficult to discount her presence. Other entities seem to indulge in poltergeist activity as they cleverly open doors and make audible sounds to ensure that you know they are with you.
The servants kitchen is particularly active as are the Temple and the old school that is situated in the stable block. Dark mists and shadows are often seen in the school and so many people have refused to go there alone.
History of Bishton Hall
Bishton Hall is a Grade II listed building that dates back to the mid 18th century. However, there are elements of the building that date back even further. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, there has been a building on this site since around 1086. There have been many important families living in this sprawling mansion over the centuries including John Sneyd, Cecil Stafford Northcote and John Sparrow, all former Sheriffs of Staffordshire. John Sparrow was a magistrate and a lawyer who purchased Bishton Hall in 1776.
Charlotte Sparrow, daughter of John Sparrow, was one of the most popular owners of Bishton Hall. Charlotte devoted her life to improving and renovating this mansion making it a home to be proud of. Charlotte added the east and the west wings of this house turning it into the magnificent property it is today.
In more modern times Bishton Hall opened St Bede's School in what was the stable block. It remained a popular school until it closed in 2018. Now owned by Charles Hanson, the house houses many antiques and fascinating objects that keep Bishton Hall alive.
