Ghost of Lowlands Mansion
By day, this grand Victorian mansion sits quietly within its rare city woodland garden, beautiful and still. But when darkness falls, the atmosphere shifts. What once feels elegant becomes oppressive and the silence carries something far more unsettling.
Lowlands Mansion have left countless visitors shaken, convinced that something unseen shares the space. Shadows drift where nothing should move and apparitions have been spotted on the upper windows.
Inside, faint whispers echo through the corridors, as though the house itself is trying to speak.
A menacing male energy is said to follow closely behind as you walk up the main staircase, unseen but unmistakably there.
Strange scents of tobacco and smoke linger in the air with no source and perhaps most unsettling of all, there are repeated reports of children, small figures glimpsed on the first floor landing and in the bedrooms, appearing, then vanishing without a trace.
What or who will you communicate with here on a overnight ghost hunt with Haunted Happenings?
History of Lowlands Mansion
Hidden within a rare Victorian woodland garden, Lowlands Mansion stands as a breathtaking Grade II-listed masterpiece but behind its refined Italianate façade lies a history that refuses to rest.
Built in 1846 by architect Thomas Haigh on land belonging to Lord Salisbury, the mansion has witnessed generations of lives, ambitions and loss. From the influential Withers family led by powerful stockbroker Thomas Randles Withers, to the lingering presence of those who followed, the house has absorbed every whisper, every secret, every final breath within its walls.
After Withers’ death in 1899, the mansion remained home to his widow and nine children, a family bound to a house that would outlive them all. Decades later, as nearby mansions fell to demolition, Lowlands Mansion was spared.
During the wartime, Lowlands Mansion was damaged and later repurposed by the Inland Revenue, the building saw a constant flow of people but not all of them ever truly left. By the 1960s, a different kind of energy filled its rooms. As the home of the legendary Pillar Club, the echoes of early performances from bands like The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Searchers, The Hollies and Billy J. Kramer pulsed through the halls, blending music, memory and something far more unexplainable. Even George Harrison was drawn here, unaware of what else may have been listening.
Now, following a meticulous restoration, Lowlands Mansion has been returned to its former Victorian grandeur, but its past remains very much alive.
