With many ghostly reports of paranormal activity, we are sure your Ghost Hunt at Monks Manor will be one you'll never forget! Spend time investigating the old kitchens, Buttery, Great Hall and numerous bedrooms.

Will you encounter the spirit of the Cistercian Monk who is known to wander the grounds?

Ghosts of Monks Manor

This 16th Century Medieval Grade II listed Manor House, that sits on an earlier Cistercian Monks farm is said to be haunted by many spirits including that of two young children who drowned in a tragic accident which happened in the river that runs alongside Monks Manor.

Although visitors sense a calm and welcoming atmosphere, many flee when encountering a dark figure that likes to follow people around.

Tearful cries of a young boy calling for "Mam" have been heard echoing down empty hallways and dark corridors and there have been countless reports from the staff working here of the entrance doors bursting open.

History of Monks Manor

Later owned by the Griffiths Family, Llanyrafon Manor sits on a site which was once a farm for the monks of Llantarnam Abbey. In 1530, when the monasteries were dissolved, Catherine Parr visited Llanyrafon Manor to divide up the land.

The Manor, as it stands today was built in the 1600's by Walter Griffith who purchased the land in 1616. Walter was first of the Griffith family to live here, along with his wife Mary and their son, Charles. The site continued to remain in the hands of the Griffith family for many centuries.

After Florence Griffiths' death in 1886, the estate was sold to the Laybourne family. Richard Laybourne purchased the Manor as a wedding present for his daughter Edith and her husband Alfred Pilliner. Alfred then divided up the estate and it became a working farm. The east and west wings became cottages, while the north wing was converted into quarters for unmarried workers.

During the first World War, Llanyrafon Manor housed farm workers along with three Italian prisoners of war and Women's Land Army members.

After laying abandoned and decaying for many years, the Manor was recognised for its historial importance and is now owned by Torfaen council.
