The whole complex of this haunted Nunnery in Malvern is vast with numerous areas to investigate. The chapel is awe-inspiring and the basement underneath the buildings is a labyrinth of pitch black rooms and tunnels where you get a real glimpse of its former existence.

Just walking around this location can feel terrifying even in daylight, however, when darkness falls it definitely is not for the faint-hearted. With no electricity and working in torchlight only, The Nunnery is a gift for all avid ghost hunters and is without doubt a location that really does have to be experienced.

The Nunnery

Ghosts of The Nunnery

The Nunnery was purposely built and used as a convent for over 250 nuns and continued to do so for over a hundred years. When you are inside the building you get a real sense of the protection afforded to the nuns who lived here. Although The Nunnery is now abandoned, when you walk through the vast building which includes the basement and accommodation areas you can see how they would have lived.

The chapel itself is magnificent and awe inspiring although there is a real sense of trepidation as you walk into it. There have been many ghost sightings within The Nunnery with chanting and whispered voices heard on many occasions. As you make your way through the maze of corridors down into the basement the atmosphere really changes and people have reported shadow figures and objects being moved as well as unexplained noises.

There is no electricity and everything is in darkness. This really is an opportunity for ghost hunters who are able to withstand this type of atmosphere in their attempts to make contact with the previous residents of this daunting location

History of The Nunnery

This huge complex was built in 1879 and there are many remnants of that period still dotted around the fabric of the building itself. The Nunnery was established by The Community of the Holy Name and during its life as a Convent over 250 nuns were reported to have lived here.

Sadly in the 1960's the intake declined and due to financial issues it was forced to close in the mid 1980s. Eventually The Nunnery was sold to a property developer and those nuns still residing there were moved to a smaller Nunnery in Derby.

The building itself has had a few uses since that time but nothing substantial and nothing that means any part of the building has been adapted. This really is a great opportunity to spend time getting in touch with how others would have lived during their time here.
