Glossary of Paranormal and ghostly Terms

To help you understand the paranormal we have compiled a list of the most common terms used in the world of the paranormal and ghost hunting.

Omen – A phenomenon that serves as a sign or warning of some future ‘good or evil’ event.

Oracle – An oracle is a person or agency considered to be a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion; an infallible authority, usually spiritual in nature. It may also be a revealed prediction or precognition of the future.

Orb – A mass of energy in the shape of a ball, there are several classifications depending on size. Orbs are said to be the first signs of a manifestation of a spirit or ghost

Ouija Board - A ouija board is any flat surface printed with letters, numbers, and other symbols, to which a planchette or movable indicator points, supposedly in answer to questions from people at a séance. The fingers of the participants are placed on the planchette that then moves about the board to spell out messages.

Out-Of-Body (OBE) - Also called Astral Projection. The phenomenon in which a living person's spirit or soul can exit his or her body and then travel to another location or plain of existence. After which they can return to their body with the knowledge of the location they visited.
