Glossary of Paranormal and ghostly Terms

To help you understand the paranormal we have compiled a list of the most common terms used in the world of the paranormal and ghost hunting.

Fairies / fairy - also known as fay, fey, fae, faerie. There are many types of fairies that are believed to exist and also believed to be connected to the elements, earth, fire, air and water. The concept of fairies is based on the fae of medieval Western European (Old French) folklore and romance. Fairies are often identified with a variety of beings of other mythologies. Even in folklore that uses the term "fairy," there are many definitions of what constitutes a fairy. Sometimes the term is used to describe any magical creature, including goblins or gnomes: at other times, the term only describes a specific type of more ethereal creature.

Fireball - Frequently reported in haunted locations and is a Scottish phenomenon. The fireball is said to move in a slow and smooth manner. They are also frequently reported near to stretches of water such as small river and streams. Some believe they are the souls of the departed returning to Earth in order to guide the souls of the recently departed to the next world or afterlife.

Focal Person - The person who is the center of poltergiste activity.
