Glossary of Paranormal and ghostly Terms

To help you understand the paranormal we have compiled a list of the most common terms used in the world of the paranormal and ghost hunting.

Doppelgänger - It derives from Doppel (double) and Gänger (walker), and is a german word to describe a ghost or spirit which is the double of a living person. A doppelgänger is also said to be an evil twin of the living person. The person seeing this form of apparition is said to have some kind of misfortune bestowed on them. Doppelgänger’s seen by a person's friends or relatives portends illness or danger, while seeing one's own doppelgänger is an omen of death.

Drude – The singular of Druden are mature witches and wizards of Germanic folklore and appear in the dreams of their chosen victim. It is said that they pass through small cracks in windows, doors and keyholes into the room of the sleeping victim. Once inside the room they sit on the chest of their victim and process them

Duppy – This folklore originates in West Africa. A duppy can be either the manifestation (in human or animal form) of the soul of a dead person, or a malevolent supernatural being. It is said in Jamaica, a person is believed to possess two souls - a good soul and an earthly soul. In death, the good soul goes to heaven to be judged by God, while the earthly spirit remains for three days in the coffin with the body, where it may escape if proper precautions are not taken, and appear as a duppy
