Glossary of Paranormal and ghostly Terms To help you understand the paranormal we have compiled a list of the most common terms used in the world of the paranormal and ghost hunting.
Cemetery Lights – This term is often used to describe bluish balls of light seen hovering over graves after dark. Channelling – This form of spirit communication normally happens when an unseen entity takes possession of the medium to talk directly to whomever they want or to gain knowledge of future events. Clairaudience – This is the ability or skill which is claimed by many mediums to hear things not audible in the normal hearing range. The medium often receives messages from the entity or ghost telling of future events or messages from dead relatives who are passing on information to the living. Clairvoyance – Using the Mind’s Eye a person who claims to have this power is able to see future events or even past events. People who claim to be a clairvoyant are able to see the events that the normal eye cannot see. Cold Reading – When a medium or psychic as no prior knowledge of the sitter Cold Spot – This is an area in a haunted place where there is a sudden drop in temperature, these areas are normally localised for example in a corner of a room or even a certain step on a flight of stairs. Collective Apparition – This is when more than one person see’s a ghost at the same time. Conjure – When a medium summons a spirit to come forth or to manifest itself to answer questions or to perform a task. Corpse Candle – These are often seen at night and are described as a ball of firelight which dance above the ground. Crisis Apparition – This form of apparition is said to appear at the time of a crisis, this can be in the waking hours or come to a person in a dream. It is sometimes referred to a spirit trying to say goodbye or to check on their loved ones before crossing over.
