The famously ‘haunted’ Tutbury Castle, located on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border, is holding a special supernatural sleepover in aid of the NSPCC’s Child’s Voice Appeal.
The intrepid 'ghostbusters' will be sponsored to spend a nerve-tingling night in the castle on 13 February 2010. All money raised will go towards the NSPCC’s Child’s Voice Appeal which aims to expand ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline, to help make sure every child has someone to turn to.
Harinee Selvadurai, NSPCC community fundraising manager, says: "It'll be a great night, especially as the money we raise will go to a really good cause – to expand our helplines and make our vision to answer many more cries for help a reality.” But be warned...participants enter at their own risk. The many lost souls that are said to haunt the castle itself include reputed famous guests such as Mary Queen of Scots.
A limited number of places are available. There is a £38 registration fee and participants will be expected to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship for the NSPCC. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
For ghost lovers Tutbury Castle has featured on TV programmes such as “The World’s Biggest Ghost Hunt” and “Most Haunted”. Tutbury Castle curator Lesley Smith formerly part of the “Most Haunted” team also featured on the programme. In 2005 the castle hosted the national “Haunted Convention”.

The NSPCC is the UK's leading children charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. The NSPCC's purpose is to end cruelty to children FULL STOP. The NSPCC runs projects and services across the United Kingdom and Channel Islands, including ChildLine, the UK's free, confidential 24-hour helpline for children and young people.
The government has pledged £30m over four years towards the expansion of ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline, but the NSPCC needs the support of the public to raise a further £50m through the Child's Voice Appeal, to make its vision to answer many more cries for help a reality. Everyone can support the Child's Voice Appeal at www.childsvoiceappeal.org.uk. To date the appeal has raised £21.8m.
