The Skirrid Inn has a torrid history of violence against humanity. First mentioned on record in 1110 this historic building is now over 900 years old. It claims to be the oldest pub in Great Britain. The Skirrid Inn got its name from the ‘Skirrid Mountain’ which engulfs this historic location. Its history includes that of Kings both Welsh and English who would have used the ancient ‘mounting stone’ which still sits in the forecourt to this day. In fact this was meant to be the place where Owain Glyndwr the famous Welsh rebel called together his troops before launching his attack on Pontrilas in the 14th Century. It is not suprising that the cantering of horses has been heard outside the Skirrid Inn by many people over the years.
This pub was also the supposed location of Hanging Judge Jeffries and the beginnings of his illustrious career of execution. In fact there is a beam in the Skirrid Inn which still bears the rope marks of the hangings carried out in the Inn. There is also the hallmark of a courtroom on the first floor and of a cell where the condemned man may have spent his last night before facing his agonising death the following morning. Apart from being perhaps the most haunted pub in the UK as declared by haunted pubs expert Richard Jones, the Skirrid Inn is also infamous for its ghastly and ghostly goings on.
The activity seen in this pub is spectacular. Do not be surprised if you feel something slip around your neck psychically it could be a noose. Many people have had that experience on investigation here. Glasses have been seen flying across the bar, cackling laughter has been heard and rooms have become icy cold for no reason and then gone warm again straight afterwards. Things have gone missing and then mysteriously reappeared. The Mediums who have visited the Skirrid Inn have all picked up on the same name of a female spirit who inhabits this location and makes her presence felt. Although she is undoubtedly not the only spirit here.
It will be very interesting to see who and what we encounter on this investigation. Your night will begin with a hot 2-course psychic supper which will be a fantastic opportunity for you to chat to our Mediums and Paranormal Team about our experiences and to share yours.
You will then be given demonstrations of our ghost hunting equipment and be shown the best ways to in which to encounter and to deal with any sort of activity on the night.
The actual ghost hunt will begin at midnight when you will be able to walk around with our Medium to find out who or what is in wait for us on the night and where the most active areas of the Skirrid Inn will be.
You will then be carrying out vigils and séances in those active areas. You will have every opportunity to carry out your own vigil if you are brave enough.
Apart from your delicious supper refreshments will be served throughout the night. This event is strictly for 18 and over. Please do not contact the Skirrid Inn for this event but please contact us if you need any further information.
Just to say what a fantastic night we had at the Skirrid Inn. Thanks to the host for being brave enough to stand in between me and Carolyn when she was making a beeline for me during her trance. (I sure was scared!!) The walk around the Church yard was exciting and being touched on the back of my head by who knows what or who, made it even more hair raising. It was great to be part of the event and I look forward to the next one.
