The large and magnificent structure of Nothe Fort is one of Weymouth’s major attractions. It is located at the entrance to Weymouth Harbour and is a maze of underground passageways and tunnels. The Fort was constructed on three levels and has the most amazing views of the Jurassic Coast. The history of the Fort is amazing.
Constructed on three levels, the lowest level, Magazine Level, was originally designed to store gunpowder and shells. The middle level, Gun Deck Level, was designed to accommodate 12 heavy muzzle loaded cannons and provide accommodation for the soldiers manning the cannons. The top level formed the ramparts and provided a raised platform that could be used to fire muskets and light muzzle loaded cannons during an attack on the fort. The fort was commissioned in 1872 at a cost of £120,000.
The Ghosts and Spirits of this very eerie Fort are extremely active and have been witnessed by many visitors here. The apparition that consistently appears is that of The Whistling Gunner. This is definitely the best known ghost at Nothe Fort and even has a passageway dedicated to him. Other figures that have been seen wandering the parapets include that of a white Figure and the spooky and eerie noises that accompany you as you walk around.
There have not been many investigations here at Nothe Fort but those who have been brave enough to spend the night here have left petrified and set never to return. Their experiences have included voices whispering in their ears, being touched by unseen hands and ghostly lights appearing from nowhere. Poltergeist activity has also been witnessed here and those embarking on an investigation with us will need to really keep their wits about them.

A big thank you to all at HH and especially our host for the evening who helped calm my nerves from my paranormal experince i had at Avenue House on friday 13th march 09, There were a group of us that went to the cellar we were in pairs placed around parts of the cellar as the medium was calling out for spirits and children to come forward soon after this i had my scarf tug/pulled down very hard and felt the scarf tighten around my neck then i completly lost my sense's and screamed and ran this was filmed by another guest on the film you can see me running out and behind me was an orb, This was a great experince.
