Overlooking the Ribble Valley and Pendle Hill, the magnificent Clitheroe Castle has an overwhelming history. Built over 800 years ago by Robert de Lacy it was also part of the Royal Estates and passed to the Duke of Albernarle by Charles II. There is a fascinating museum section to the Castle which actually sits over the cellar of a building pre-dating the 1500's. The Keep to the Castle still has its original limestone blocks which were used to repair the damage during the Civil War,
Along with its breathtaking views and steep cliff-top walk, Clitheroe Castle has an outstanding history which is clearly visible on your ascent to the top of the turret. Clitheroe has strong attachments to the Pendle Witch story and we will be examining this during our investigation here.
It also has a history of death and destruction along with horrific executions and sinister relationships. This is a location which is rife with ghosts and spirits in many areas of the Castle both inside and out. There have been many, many sightings of various apparitions but something which has been seen regularly relates to the ghost of a family who wander around the Castle grounds. Howling and groans of agony are heard echoing throughout the Castle and the moanings of somebody in extreme pain are clearly heard. You will be lucky if you escape the feelings of being touched here as it is notorious for this and those hands that touch you have never really been identified.
We will be spending the night with exclusive access to the Castle under the guidance of our Ribble Valley and Pendle Witch expert, Simon Entwistle. Simon is a TV Historian for ITV and has carried out many investigations of the Pendle Witches with Haunted Happenings and all of our events here have begun at this famous Castle. Now, due to the refurbishment we have the opportunity to spend the night inside it. Join us as spend our first night in this very haunted and sinister Castle.
