On the Saturday you will be taken by coach into the Centre of York where you will enjoy FREE access to The York Castle Museum which you can go through at your leisure. Famous throughout the world as a fantastic demonstration of York's barbaric and turbulent history this tour will clearly show you why York has the reputation of being perhaps the most haunted city in the world. You will then have free time to wander through York Shambles or visit the Jorvik Centre after perhaps taking in a spot of lunch at one of their many restaurants, including the world famous Bettys Tea Rooms. You will then be picked up by coach and returned to the hotel for some leisure time before the night ahead.

On Saturday night, after a delicious 3 course meal, we will make our way by coach to 12 Clifford Street, home of The York Dungeons where we will be ghost hunting throughout the night. York Dungeons has a fearsome reputation by day. Imagine what it will be like once the lights are off and we are left to work in the pitch black of what is a truly sinister location. The Dungeon sits within the grounds of what were once part of the monastic buildings belonging to the Friary of Franciscans or Grey Friar Monks. By day this is a tourist attraction drawing in thousands of visitors eager to be terrified but at night, once the lights go out the dungeons will tell a different story.

Ghosts of York

The ghosts of York are innumerable and to list them all here would be impossible. Every area of York has a ghostly story to tell. From our perspective we will be looking at the ghosts said to haunt the Parsonage Hotel and Spa and the York Dungeons. However, during the day you may also wish to visit some of the buildings open to the public that will reveal other ghostly phenomena. The York Dungeon is said to be haunted by three monks, a little girl called Emily and a mysterious man dressed in blue dungarees with a typical Northern accent.

The Parsonage Hotel is situated in the village of Escrick and dates back to 1840. The hotel has a reputaton for being haunted by a female ghost, with many visitors claiming to have seen a victorian lady wandering throughout the hotel and it's grounds. It would definitely be worth taking your camera on your visit here during the day as so many people have captured ghostly evidence.

History of York

York is one of England’s finest and most beautiful historic cities. The Romans knew it as Eboracum. To the Saxons it was Eoforwick. The Vikings – who came as invaders but stayed on in settlements – called it Jorvik. Its more recent history also characterises the city – its Minster and medieval architecture, its Georgian town houses, and its wonderful Victorian railway station.

The York of today is a fashionable city that successfully combines its heritage and superb historic architecture with sophisticated designer shops, smart restaurants, bars and cafes, to attract tourists from all over the world. Visitors soon discover that every aspect of York’s modern life is inextricably linked with its past. Even their evening entertainment includes ghost walks through the city’s shadowy snickleways and ginnels to find haunted pubs – of which York boasts a great many.
